RHEL 5 - Remote Syslog : How to configure IP/Host Based log files

    Hi,

I have configured remote syslog in our RHEL environment, and it working without any issues. Problem is all client servers logs are flooding into /var/log/messages. I would like configure the syslog to manage log files based on IP/Host Name.

Instead of /var/log/messages, I need to have /var/log/<client-hostname>.log

Can anyone please help me on this.

    Thanks,
    Sree

It's RHEL5, so I presume you're using the default rsyslogd. Have a look at How to Setup Rsyslog Remote Logging on Linux (Central Log Server)

If you're using syslog-ng, it's also doable, but differently.
