    have you tried (as root):

    Code:
    yum install git
if it is not as simple as that - what is your exact distro and version? what have you tried, what guide(s) have you followed and what exact errors are you getting?

I have installed git, I have trouble configuring a repository.
I tried: Setting Up Own Git Server On CentOS | Serdar Yildirim - blog

Everything goes fine until I try to connect to it and do an initial commit which doesn't work. Close also doesn't work.

My server box is CentOS 6.2, latest git, latest SSH.

client is windows 7 x64. I have used command prompt and git extensions, both with no luck. I get this error:

fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Since then I have deleted the repository and the 'git' user and want to try again... can you guide me through it?

I uninstalled and reinstalled and I still cannot get it to work

This time I followed this: http://git-scm.com/book/en/Git-on-th...-Up-the-Server

And I still cannot get it to work!

    Can anyone help me?!

okay, start simple. go step by step, and once you hit a command that does NOT work, post the exact command you ran, and the exact error message.

HINT: in the Bash shell, after any command, you can type this to see the return value of the last command:
    Code:
    echo $?
    for example:
    Code:
    /bin/true;echo $?
    /bin/false;echo $?
for the record, this very simple guide worked for me on a CentOS box.
