Made mess with tar tar command

    Dear friends,

I made a mess with tar command, i switch the file names as following:

    #tar -cvf file_to_be_tarred newtarfile.tar

When I did this, it overwrote file existing file "file_to_be_tarred" with new empty file because newtarfile.tar was not existing.

Is there any way to recover my original file "file_to_be_tarred"?

Not really. This is why it's important to back up your important files. You could try some of the undelete methods, but I'm not sure how it will all play out: Undelete Files on an ext3 or ext4 File System | everyday linux how2s
