If you're new and not well versed with compiling kernels, my advice would be to get an ethernet modem

Nice, do you work for Aol.. if not you should apply for a job there. Because thats the sort of support they would give..

I have the same problem and anyone who lives in thailand ALSO has the same problem as the BIPAC router is supplied with the cfountries number 1 Broadband supplier, so NO i don't want to get an ethernet ADSL Modem, yes i would like some serious assistance on how to resolve this problem... I like fedora, but i think i'm gonna have to go back ro RH9...

generally linux has problem with usb (seemed to be solved in the newest kernels like 2.6.10)....but when talking about an internet connection you should prefer ppp over ethernet than usb modems...

Ok, i didn't try this because

    1) RPM's are usually compiled for the pecific version of linux
    2) Fedora isn't redht....

however i have, and it catastrphically killed my PC...

Seeing as i now have to rebuild my PC, i will go back to RH9 unless Mandrake 10 is any better?
