    Hi Folks,

Writing my very first post/question here in this platform. Hope the journey will go good.

    Alrighty,
Today after configuring YUM server on one of my Test Database machine, i failed to update any package or the entire YUM repository.

This is what' happening and what I've performed yet to kill the issue occurred:

    -- [root]# yum update
    Code:
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
    RHN support will be disabled.
    Setting up Update Process
    No Packages marked for Update

[root at localhost Server]# yum search firefox
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
    RHN support will be disabled.
    ===================================================================================== Matched: firefox ======================================================================================
firefox.i386 : Mozilla Firefox Web browser.
[root at localhost Server]# yum update firefox.i386
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
    RHN support will be disabled.
    Setting up Update Process
    Error: No Package Matching firefox.i386
The problem still persists even after cleaning Yum Metadata.

[root at localhost Server]# yum clean all
    Code:
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
    Cleaning up Everything
[root at localhost Server]# yum clean metadata
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
    0 metadata files removed
    0 sqlite files removed
    0 metadata files removed

    I re-tried and failed again:
[root at localhost Server]# yum update
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
    RHN support will be disabled.
    Setting up Update Process
    No Packages marked for Update
    Please Assist

    Thanks

    hi and welcome

you need to buy a redhat subscription, if you want to update this redhat System.

A other choice is to reinstall with centos

Thank you so very much for your reply.

But i did the same - (YUM CLEAN ALL/METADATA) with one of my another machine (ORACLE LINUX 6) and it worked absolutely fine after that and now it's up and loaded with all updated packages.

And correct me if i am wrong. Shouldn't it provides the list of all packages which are out of date and requires update when we execute ' yum list updates '. Because it's not yielding to this as well.

    Thanks

for a redhat machine, you need a rhn subscription.
However, if this machine is a Oracle Linux, then the updates are freely available from the Oracle repositories, afaik.

Maybe you somehow installed the rhn plug-in for yum. Deinstall or disable that.

    It's a Local Repository what I've created.

    Ok
And if the packages are the same as of the disk from which u have installed ur OS
then it will not show any updates as the packages installed and available are same
so if u want the updated one u should be connected to internet or download the updated package from the internet.

    no probs ant,

and that would be a problem i think if u want any updates u should be connected to RHN support as told by "irithori"
because on redhat systems u need to be connected to red hat network

and the rest if u could get any updations without RHN support i willl let u know as soon as possible.

    thanks kp.
