    About install/remove software with yum

    Hi all,

    Fedora 17, 64bits

    I ran following commands;
    $ sudo yum install httpd
    $ sudo yum install mysql
    $ sudo yum install mysql-server

    installing above packages.

    I haven't configured them.

    Then I ran again;
    $ sudo yum remove httpd
    $ sudo yum remove mysql

    on running;
    $ sudo yum remove mysql-server
    Code:
    Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
    No Match for argument: mysql-server
    No Packages marked for removal
    No package found.

    Whether mysql-server has been removed with "remove mysql" simultaneiously.

    However on running;
    $ sudo find / -name mysql
    Code:
    find: `/run/user/satimis/gvfs': Permission denied
    /usr/share/mysql
    /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/mysql
    /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/DBD/mysql
    /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/auto/DBD/mysql
    /usr/lib64/mysql
    Whether I have to remove them manually including their contents? I.e. directory + filles

    $ ls /usr/share/mysql/
    Code:
    charsets english greek korean portuguese slovak
    czech estonian hungarian norwegian romanian spanish
    danish french italian norwegian-ny russian swedish
    dutch german japanese polish serbian ukrainian
    $ ls /usr/lib64/mysql/
    Code:
    libmysqlclient.so.18  libmysqlclient.so.18.0.0
    $ ls -al /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/mysql
    Code:
    -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 2417 Jun 20 01:17 /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/mysql
    $ ls /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/DBD/mysql/
    Code:
    GetInfo.pm  INSTALL.pod
    $ ls /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/auto/DBD/mysql/
    Code:
    mysql.so
    TIA

    B.R.

    try the following to find what and how mysql is installed,

    Code:
    rpm -qa | grep mysql
    You should never remove things manually unless you know what you are doing as you can and most likely will corrupt the installed package DB.

    Would it be dependencies? Shall I remove this package with "yum remove'?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Thanks.

    A further thought would that package be used by other applications running on Fedora other than MySQL? Is there any way to check? TIA
