    Can't install office 2010 on fedora 16.

    hi all.

    I found a step by step guide on installing office 2010 on linux and did as it said. installed wine. the version used was 1.3 but i used 1.5 which is better though and he also was using fedora 15 and i used fedora 16. did all the dlls and fonts and blah blah. changed the properties as instructed. but anytime, no matter how i try it, the installer just encounters an error and finishes before installing. when it's in the middle of the progress bar it halts and then the error. there are no error code or any thing.

    i tried installing one by one. all at one. install on first use. change wine directory. change office directory. reset wine. i even totally deleted wine from my system and again downloaded all the fresh wine for two times. still the installer stops at the precise moment it stopped before!!!

    I've got a hp 110 net book. had windows seven ultimate before and also installed office 2010 in windows too. 1 GB ram and atom CPU.
    well the fedora version is fedora 16 and fully updated until today. wine version is 1.5.17. i use q4wine too, which is very helpful but no good to installing office 2010.
    I'm mounting the office image using mount -o.

    thanks in advance.

    According to the Wine Apps Database, the installation of MS Office 2013 under Wine is 'garbage':

    WineHQ - Microsoft Office (installer only) 2013 (32 bit)

    WineHQ - Microsoft Office (installer only)

    If running MS Office 2013 is a must, you could probably run it with Windows under Linux using virtualization software.

    Why not use Libreoffice and save it as a .doc or .docx?

    I just installed office 2010 on my fedora 16 using wine 1.5.17 and did the instructions one by one again. the installation problem was that i didn't have samba-winbind. so i downloaded it and installed the office but this time it doesn't start and gives the error....blah blah.

    I put the detailed information here.

    well for the first reason libreoffice is much more manual than automatic! but that is no problem. the point is that they don't give you any good scores if the spaces and other format information come into the text. office hides them but libre office shows them.

    however i have done my thesis on libre office and I just want to do a last time format in ms office to avoid any misfortune. so there i need ms office.

    Lightbulb Office 2010 installed and Working fluently.

    hello.

    I found two ways of installation.

    1- download and install playonlinux through apper. there are two modules to install. install both.
    * you should have samba-winbind. you can download it using search in apper. install all the modules.
    +once you installed playonlinux, you can access it from terminal. just type playonlinux and press enter. the program starts and it's as easy as windows was after this. it automatically downloads the fonts and libraries needed before installation and creates the essential changes. then asks for the setup file and the installation begins. the installation in my system went just fine but there might be some bugs in and out. however there is a ignore-able error at the end of installation which you don't care and ignore it. that's it press finish and you've got your office in linux working just sweet.
    last thing to do is to go to each program and lower the trust-center level.
    **remember that wine and all wine-dependent programs only install word, excell, and powerpoint. thus, in the installation of office press customize and uncheck all the others but these three.
    =========================================
    after I checked all the word, excell, and powerpoint, I went to see the winecfg and prefix configuration.

    there I found that there are other libraries to install if you don't want to use playonlinux.
    (this method doesn't work)
    thus,

    if you only want to use wine, and nothing more, here is the way you can do it.(I'm using Fedora 16, 3.6.7-4.fc16.i686.PAE kernel and wine 1.5.17)

    2- make sure you have installed samba-winbind. then create a fresh wine prefix and fake drive and use winetricks to install:

    dlls:
    vcrun2005(containing msvcr80)
    msxml6
    riched20

    fonts:
    corefonts

    you might get an error while installing vcrun2005, but ignor it. it is installed.
    next you would mind to do some changes in the libraries you installed. open winecfg and in libraries tap change the attributes of libraries. press edit.

    msvcr80 = (Native, then built in)
    msxml6 = (Native, Windows)
    riched20= (Native, Windows)

    then in the new override libraries find urlmon and add it. then eddit it into (Native, then built in).

    then as you know you should change the prefix windows version to XP or most perfectly 7.

    apply it and press ok.

    now go and run the office 2010 setup. as I mentioned before, customize the installation and only choose Excell,Powerpoint, and Word. also open the subcatagories of these three using the + sign. and uncheck or drop the module ".Net Programmablitily Support". then install it.
    the installation is just fine, but again the programs don't run.

    I put the error here. if somebody can help me fix it.

    System information:
        Wine build: wine-1.5.17

        Host system: Linux
        Host version: 3.6.7-4.fc16.i686.PAE

    there is one more important point. when you install all these you get a sepolicy error. that could be fixed in fedora 16 using this code:

    Code:
    sudo grep wine-preloader /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
    this creates the policy for wine.

    Code:
    sudo semodule -i mypol.pp
    this enables the policy. though you don't get the error anymore.
