    Passwd command not working?

    Hi,

I am having issues resetting passwords using the passwd on RHEL 5.8

I login with my user id, sudo to root and change the users password. It appears to be successful however when the user tries to log in... no dice.

    Code:
    [root]# which passwd
    /usr/bin/passwd

    [root]# /usr/bin/passwd some_user
    Changing password for user some_user.
    ...
    ...
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

    [root]# echo $?
    0

    [root]# passwd -S some_user
    some_user PS 2012-12-17 1 90 14 90 (Password set, MD5 crypt.)
    Any ideas?

Solved it - needed to clear the fail log

    Code:
    faillog -ru some_user
