Driver installation doesn't find utsrelease.h from kernel headers

i want to install the cable drivers for a USB Xilinx FPGA programmer (DLC9G). I found the right drivers here:

    Used kernel version & distribution:

Problem: when i run the installation executable i get the following error:
checking linux kernel version... hello.c:1:30: fatal error: linux/utsrelease.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.
    not found
configure: error: can't find kernel version
A bit further in the output, i also get:
                     from linux_wrappers.c:19:
/lib/modules/ fatal error: asm/processor.h: No such file or directory
    compilation terminated.
My best guess is that in the Xilinx drivers only work on kernels that are older than mine, versions that still have 'utsrelease.h' and 'processor.h' (and maybe others) on a place the installer expects.

Is this kind of error common, if so can i solve it without going to an earlier kernel version?

Can a moderator move this topic to the subforum "kernel"? I think this topic belongs over there, rather than here... It's actually a kernel-related problem instead of fedora-related...

Just a wide guess, do you have kernel-headers installed on your system?

Yes, I have the kernel headers installed that match my running kernel. The installer script finds the correct directory where my kernel headers are installed, but cannot find utsrelease.h, because that particular file not located at linux/utsrelease.h but at a different location.
