Is it a firewire drive? Or are you using a firewire external hotswap?

At installation time, on the boot prompt type "linux firewire". This disabled the loading of the ochi1394 driver (firewire port).

    "runing install runing /sbin/loader"
what is that? and is there any way to pass that one to the kernel?

Question; is it a laptop connecting through a PCMCIA card? If so you might need a boot floppy to load the driver.
