Using Redhat clone Scientific Linux 6.3:

I created keyboard shortcut for Emacs but opening with that and then C-x C-f a new file gives the following message:

' file not found and directory write-protected '

And of course it will not allow me to enter input into my newly created file. Is there some way to work around this because being able to open Emacs with a keyboard shortcut is non-negotiable.

This behavior does not occur when I open Emacs the other standard ways.
