    vsftpd error

    I am trying to set up an FTP server on my Redhat Linux 9 computer but I am encountering an error. I am able to log in OK from my internal network, but if I try to log in from the outside I get the following error:

    421 Service not available

    I do not think that it is a problem with my router as I can access my web server Ok and it is configured in the same manner. i.e I set up requests to port 21 and 80 to be forwarded to my Linux machine's IP address. Don't really know what else it could be though. Just wanted to put it out there to see if anyone spots anything in my config file that I may have missed, or can think of some other Linux based setting that could be causing this behavior..

    Here are all of the settings in my vsftpd.conf file...

    local_enable=YES
    local_umask=022
    dirmessage_enable=YES
    xferlog_enable=YES
    connect_from_port_20=YES
    xferlog_std_format=YES
    pam_service_name=vsftpd
    userlist_enable=YES
    userlist_deny=NO
    userlist_file=/etc/vsftpd.user_list
    listen=YES
    tcp_wrappers=YES
    listen_address=192.168.1.4

    Thank you in advance for any insight, or pointers in the right direction..

    John

    Try forwarding port 20 on your router, and login on that port (since it seems your conf file allows it)
