for installing mail server you have to process through following ways:-
    1. install the package postfix by using command "yum install postfix"
2.open the configuration file by using vi command- /etc/postfix/main.cf
    In this file uncomment "inet-interfaces=all"
    3. Now restart the service "/etc/init.d/postfix restart"
if it doesn't give any error you are configured a mail server

do you want other systems in your office to connect to this mail server and have ability to hit it for purpose of sending and receiving stored mail, or is it just for the one box hosting the mail. What distribution are you running?
