    apropos vs man -k?

Hello all! I am a student currently studying Linux, mostly Fedora 19 (which now I am really starting to love!) I've been using the apropos and man -k command interchangeably and have been getting the same results.

I was wondering if there was any difference at all. My instructor claims there is a difference but he is unsure of what.

I searched the forums (and google but that didnt get me very far...) I could not find anything so I'm sorry if this has already been covered somewhere. Thanks a million!

    Copied from man man:
    man -k printf
Search the short descriptions and manual page names for the keyword printf as regular expression. Print out any matches.
    Equivalent to apropos -r printf.
