Using a wireless network adapterwith red hat 9

Recently (yesterday) I bought the "Red Hat Linux 9 bible" and installed it on an old pc i had using an "everything" install.

On my normal computer (Windows XP) i access the internet using a "linksys" USB instant wireless adapter, which recieves information from a dsl router that my dad has downstairs (also running win XP)

Since i have instructions on how to get it working from my book and also know that "on red hat linux 5 and up the tulip driver works for the specific hardware i have, my question is this: How do i get the computer to detect that it is there in the 1st place and ask me to pick out the drivers from a list?

Since i have no experience with linux im assuming this is what happens but im probably wrong!!

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hey!

Type /sbin/lspci in a terminal window and see if a network controller is detected. Post what controller you have or if u cant see it, post the lot here.

    .....

What was written by communications controller, and network rev 01, any chipset names/numbers? If it says acx100 or acx111 somewhere, then go 2 http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php and follow the instructions. If not post the chipset names and numbers here.
