    Compiling problems


    I am fairly new to Linux and am trying to install xine on my FC1 and it says i need to run GNU Make to install xine, what does that even mean? and where is this Make? can anyone plaese help me?

    That would be installing from source. You can find out how to do that here.

    I'd just use yum though. I'm not to experienced with it, but I'd imagine you could get xine installed by doing the following:
    Code:
    su
    Enter the root password, then
    Code:
    yum install xine
    and it should do everything for you. If not, check out this howto. Just scroll down to "Using yum".

    I generally install with the following:

    tar xzvf whatever.tar.gz
    cd whatever
    ./configure
    make
    make install

    Just keep an eye out for compile errors, such as dependency failures.

    the yum instal does not work on fedora core, well it does but xine isnt one that will, you need to add more sources, if i am not mistaken there is a tutorial on it
