Ok I went to the tutorial and downloaded the Plugin for mp3 playback. I run XMMS and open up a song and it doesnt work... the same for a mpg ...

    XMMS?


    Ok I went to the tutorial and downloaded the Plugin for mp3 playback. I run XMMS and open up a song and it doesnt work... the same for a mpg (video) it does nothing... Why is that?

    Have you installed all the codecs? there is a good codec pack that will work with xine here

    Does it give you an error message? Does it look like it plays the sound track, but you hear no sound. What is the name of the mp3 package you got? Have you tried plying with volume control, most lickly that might be the problem. Some of the things can be muted in there.

    it doesnt give me an error message and I cant tell if its playing, and I definetly hear no sound. and I have not messed with the volume, i figure thats not the problem because I can hear ppl talking to me on Teamspeak (online voice chat prog)

    no i did not install that codec thing you sent, BUT I just downloaded it and have no clue what to do with it..

    Firstly check that you have nothing muted by looking at your ALSA mixers,
    Code:
    alsamixer
    If nothing is muted, follow the basic instal instrunctions here, once you are in the directory the file is in un-tar it with
    Code:
    bunzip2 <filename>
    and then in the directory that is created, read the README and INSTALL files, these will say how to install them.

    k well basically I opened it up and read the README it told me to copy them to /usr/local/lib/win32
    so I did that

    and now basically its working... its playing the song perfectly
    BUT ofcourse when I go to play a video, I can hear the song nor see the video...

    and I also have RealPlayer 10 and when I click to play a video it says it requires the following components:

    mpg

    Sorry I'm unsure of your problem, does it now play music, and not video? Or doesn't it still not play both?

    it plays music easily 100% its the video I've always had a problem with bro
