    downloading files with firefox

i am running fedora 3 with kernel 2.6.10 and firefox1.0.1

firefox works great until i try to download anything. as soon as i tell it where to save the file it gets hung up and never begins the download. if i click cancel and then retry it acts like it is downloading it but it when i check the directory the file is not there.

so at the moment if i want to download anything i have to use wget or open konqueror, which isnt that big of a deal...just a pain in the backside.

I've had a problem similar to that, except that my whole machine is slowed, I can't even open nautilus. If anybody has the answer, I'd definitely like to know, I've been struggling with this for a while.
