    Windows Problem -- Linux sound

    Issue #1:
I was having some troubles with an application under windows (im dual booting btw), and decided to do a system restore to 2 days ago to see if that would rectify the problem.

Well, now I can't boot in windows... It keeps asking me how I want to boot (safe mode, last known good config, normal...) no matter what I choose, my pc restarts and gets me back to that screen.
If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this, it'd be appreciated.

    --------------------------------

    Issue #2:
I had installed Fedora Core 3 like a month ago and never really got around to playing with it, until today. I needed to get the data back from hda1 so i managed to mount it and everytihing. Now with that done, with the help of http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...ion_notes.html, I would like to get the sound working on linux.

Here is the info, if anyone can help...

02:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X

    ------------

    snd_emu10k1 93769 0
    snd_rawmidi 26725 1 snd_emu10k1
    snd_pcm_oss 47609 0
    snd_mixer_oss 17217 1 snd_pcm_oss
    snd_pcm 97993 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm_oss
    snd_timer 29765 1 snd_pcm
    snd_seq_device 8137 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_rawmidi
    snd_ac97_codec 64401 1 snd_emu10k1
    snd_page_alloc 9673 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
    snd_util_mem 4801 1 snd_emu10k1
    snd_hwdep 9413 1 snd_emu10k1
    snd 54053 9 snd_emu10k1,snd_rawmidi,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_os

    ----------

    Using kernel
    2.6.9-1.667 i686

    -----------

When I go to Applications -> Sound and video -> Volume control, I get a popup saying "Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found"

Then if I go to System Settings -> Soundcard detection I don't hear the sound and it just tells me "Automatic detection of the sound card did not work. Audio will not be available on the system. Please click OK to continue."

Here's what KMix tells me when I go to hardware configutation

Any help would be appreciated... Thank you

not sure about issue one it sounds like you need to fix the MBR but for the sound have you checked the sound configuration files and error logs you may need to edit your configuration for the card
once its all working login to a shell as root
    then type
    alsamixer
when you set the desired sound settings press esc then type alsactl store
that will store the saved settings
also you may want to place alsactl restore inside the startup file
    so it activiates on boot
