Switch Users
I am using Core4 Gnome interface.
There are times when I would want to disconnect without logging off, so that my son could log to the system using his account. That is, I would like to be able to do what is possible with windows xp pro.. to switch users.
Is that at all possible with Gnome?
Also, if the screen saver is turned on, the mouse is inactive (not responsive). I can only do a forced system reboot, or wait for the user to enter his password.
To me, that is a major oversite in the Gnome design. BTW, it is Gnome 2.10.

I don't know about gnome, but in KDE, I have that fast user switching thing. KMenu -> Switch User.
For the screen saver, take a look at the gnome control center and look under screensaver, uncheck any box which pertains to asking the user to enter their password to disable the screensaver.Life is complex, it has a real part and an imaginary part.

In Fedora Core, just go to Applications -> System Tools -> New Login

swithing users
Application, sywtem tools, switch user works. Thank you.
Here is the other problem. When the screensaver becomes active, the mouse appears disabled, and I cannot get into the alternate logon (as I do not know the pws). The only option is to get the other logon to unlock the screen and for him/her to logoff or to switch users (back to me).
Again. A shortcoming in the Gnome interface.

I will post a suggestion to the Gname.org site.
