I am pretty new to the xwindow stuff.....i got the source for XFree86 4.2.0...but have no idea on how to build it.....i did search on google....but not much success....i found one document regarding this....but thts for version 3.3.....will the build procedure be same irrespective of the version???????......
I have one more question wat is the difference between installing XFree86 and building XFree86???.......

Is there a particular reason you want to build xfree86 yourself?
That's not a quick nor easy process..."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

I guess xfree86's own instructions is a start.
Or this:
http://llg.cubic.org/docs/xfree86.html
Or this (xfree86 4.5):
http://www.xfree86.org/4.5.0/BUILD.html
Or this (xfree86 4.6):
http://www.xfree86.org/current/BUILD.html
There is a lot here:
http://www.xfree86.org/current/"To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

I guess it changes a little, but anyway you have acces to the help for all the versions:
Good luck!http://www.xfree86.org/<version number>/BUILD.html"To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."
