Cracking sound on fedora core 4

hi all, I am rather new to linux. I have installed fedora core 4 on my P4-3.0GHz/Intel-915GAV system. Every thing appears to be fine apart from playing songs/music; there is a persistant crackling sound in the background which refuses to go away. I dont know how to tackle this, but it is really a pain. This is urgent, please help ! ! ! ! !
    thanking in anticipation,

I had a problem like this too, with FC 3 and an Intel integrated soundcard.
Try opening kmix or aRtsbuilder tool, and make sure the master volume isn't too high.

other than that, I don't know what else it might be.

    Unhappy :(

    hi there, thnx for replying...
tried kmix, but to no avail. I guess it has something to do with poor compatibility of the sound card..... are there linux specific drivers available for intel integrated soundcards ???? HELP ! ! !
