    I am using Fedora Core 3 (Kernel Version 2.6.9-1.667).

    When i try to login, it takes more time to start sendmail service & finally it fails.

    edit /etc/sysconfig/network and change the hostname therein (e.g. new_host_name.your_domain);
    #

    edit /etc/HOSTNAME appropriately;
    #

    append the new hostname in the line in /etc/hosts:

    127.0.0.1 localhost new_host_name.your_domain

    I changed the hostname, now its working fine.
    What is the relation between the HOSTNAME & sendmail service.

    well i guess it just hangs because it's trying to lookup and hostname that does not point anywhere and waits till the time out.
