    Kernel Prepatch Question (2.6.18-rc4)

I am new to the whole kernel prepatch thing so if someone could point me in the right direction I would be greatful.

    I downloaded linux-2.6.17.8 and patch-2.6.18-rc4, unziped
    Next I ran patch -p1 < patch-2.6.18-rc4
I get several dozen messages about patch already applied and do I want to Reverse (Assume -R)

Q1 Should I be applying the patch to the latest stable kernel (2.6.17.?

Q2 Is it normal to see the already Patched Messages?

Q3 What is the -mm patch I see on kernel.org and how does it differ from a normal prepatch?

    Thanks

    Bryan

Self Answered: You must apply to the last Major Version in this case 2.6.17 (Not 2.6.17.1 or 2.6.17.8 )
