i have installed it on FC5 and 6 with no probs.

    try this:

download the package from mozilla.com to the root's desktop- http://www.mozilla.com/products/down...nux&lang=en-US

    as root,
    Code:
    # cd /usr
    # mkdir browsers
    # cd /root/Desktop
    # cp firefox-2.0.tar.gz /usr/browsers/
go to /usr/browsers/ in the file manager, right click the file, and hit "Extract Here"

then you can delete the .tar.gz firefox file

as root again, run, (if your directory that you extracted the firefox 2 package from is named "firefox", otherwise replace that dir with whatever yours is named)

    Code:
    # chmod 777 /usr/browsers/firefox/firefox
    # cd /usr/browsers/firefox
    # ./firefox
ff 2 should open and ask you if you want to make it your default browser.
uncheck "Ask me this every time", and hit yes.

    you should be all set

Just wanted to add me name to mix.

I have the same issue as Guts. I followed anthq's recommendaations and get the "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" message.

    Ideas. Thanks.

I believe if you "yum install libstdc++" or "you install libstdc++.so.5" it should work... That's how I did it at least, however I don't know if I did the first or second one... well it should be the one you don't get an error on....

I had the same problem, just google the source for that library, download and install it. I don't think you need to do linking because it's not in the wrong place, it's just not there at all. I think the default install will put it in the right directory so you can just go back and try to install firefox again.

i asked for listing of /usr/lib to check existence of libstdc++ only. in some of my machines, only 'libstdc++.so.5.0.7' was present and i had to link it with 'libstdc++.so.5'.

All good. After a restart the icon seemed to have bound itself to the 2.0 version of Firefox.

Thank you all. I appreciate all the help. I can't belive it took me two hours to update Firefox from 1.5 to 2 but I couldn't have done it without all your input.

    Cheers
