    Help For A Newbie

    I just installed Redhat 6.1.
after I type in my user name and password at the boot up I get the following command line

    [mark@localhost mark]$

what am I doing wrong or missing?

It looks like you didn't configure or didn't install the X-Server.
Why bother with RH6 anyways, it's so old. Download Fedora and be over it - it's free.

Wow, that's like complaining that after installing Windows 3.1, the drivers don't work. RedHat Linux 6.1 is WAY old and way out of date, and almost certainly doesn't have the drivers you need.

Here's how to simplify your problem: dump those RedHat 6.1 CDs in the trash. Get something a lot newer and simpler like Ubuntu, or Kubuntu. Even Fedora (son of RedHat) is much better.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
