fresh install: rpmdb: panic: fatal region error
clean install FC6 on a new computer:
MSI K9MM-V Motherboard + AMD Sempron 3000+
256M memory (64M used for onboard video)
image sha1 checksums OK on all downloaded images
used the disk check on all install disks before install, all ok
ran memcheck 35 cycles on memory OK
first install system froze at 4%
second clean install ran through to 3rd disk failed with:
"rpmdb: panic: fatal region error detected; run recovery"
third clean install attempt same error message but this time towards end of first disk.
When the error occurs the screen fills with the error message but the install continues to the change cdrom message asking to insert the next disc plastered over the top of the screen full of error messages.
I read elsewhere on this forum of a similar error msg where it was recommended to rebuild the rdmdb. I'd do that but it's somewhat difficult to do before you have completed the install...
I do not understand the error messsage or what it wants me to do.
What need I do?
Thanks.

Well I have now made a fresh install of unbuntu 6.2 on the same system without a hitch so I don't suspect the system.
score: fedora 0, ubuntu 1 right now
I'd still like to install fedora but I need some pointers on how to debug this crash....

well I finally got it installed with help from folks over at
http://forums.fedoraforum.org
as there was no help here I thought I'd report back for other folks who might have similar problems.
Turns out that not enough memory was the problem. Anaconda has bugs that mess up things when you try to install a whole bunch of stuff at once and you don't have a whole lot of memory.
There were 2 approaches I could take:
1. install in text mode only a minimal base system and add apps later; and
2. reduce my video mem from 64M to 16M in bios and use graphical installer also only a minimal base system, add apps later.
That should get anyone with similar problems going.
