    cp ./all-20060611/* /usr/local/lib/codecs/

    i dont know what to put in place of the /*/

    Yeah, you butchered that command pretty good. But thats ok, we've all done it more than once.
    It looks like you're trying to copy the codecs files.
    Try this.
    cd /path/to/codecs/
    cp * /usr/local/lib/codecs/
    Have a look at the man page while you're there.
    man cp
