Nvidia riva tnt2 - graphic. mode crash

    hi everybody,

I have RedHat 9 on my pc, after I installed it, never started in graphical mode, it gives me the "id x respawning too fast... etc." line, I have an nvidia riva tnt2 video card (old one). I tried to install the nvidia driver from the official site, (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7184-pkg1.run) it worked fine, I made the changes in the XF86Config file - I guess I made them correctly but I have the same old error after all this. My kernel is 2.4.20-8, I really don't know what to do and I am getting tired after 3 weeks of tryings. Yes, my monitor type is still "unknown" type, though is "Belinea", I don't know if it has any meaning. What should I do about nvidia-glx or nvidia-kernel, I don't know if I need it. Anybody has some ideea, or willing to help?

What happens if you try to start X manually.

Try runlevel 3 and once you've logged in type startx. See if it displays any detailed error messages.
