    Fedora Core 6 wont boot

    Ive posted this before but it was part of another question. That initial question has been answered so im splitting off the secondary question and reposting it here.

    /explanation over.

    it installs perfectly, if i use the IRQPOLL command.
    (which i have to do for installation and running of every linux distro)

    upon booting it just freezes, after some text about XEN memory allocation.
    The last 2 lines of text before it freezes are :

    ACPI : Getting cpuindex for ACPIID 0x3
    ACPI : Getting cpuindex for ACPIID 0x4

    commands at boot that ive tried :-

    irqpoll - that one i always have to use otherwise i get nothing at all.
    acpi=off
    apm=off
    ide=nodma
    nofb
    nomce
    lowres
    expert
    single
    3

    pretty much run the whole spectrum of commands i could find. nothing changes, it always freezes at the same point.

    my system :
    intel core2duo
    2meg corsair
    radeon x1950xtx
    audigy 2zs
    3x250gig sata drives
    2x150gig ide drives on jmicron pci board
    usb keyboard
    usb mouse
    secondary ethernet port and firewire port disabled in bios.
    bios set so that sata drives mimic ide. (windows xp wouldnt have installed without driver disks else)

    Help would be incredibly appreciated in getting FC6 working.
    Maybe you know some commands i dont?

    PS. If you're going to ask me to tell you the contents of certain files or stuff like that, then please be so kind as to tell me how to do it with a total beginner in mind.

    has Fedora Installation Completed? are you getting those errors on first time booting up from Harddisk after Fedora Installation?

    yes it has installed to the hardrive.

    i understand there are more questions i have to answer, about sound etc, upon first booting fedora from the hardrive... but i never get that far.

    it freezes before i ever get any more screens asking for information.

    you wrote in first post that you had to pass 'irqpoll' boot: option. pass it again and check if it works.
    in GRUB screen, select Fedora title and press 'e'. select 'kernel' line, press 'e' again and add <space> irqpoll at the end of line. press 'Enter' key and press 'b' to boot up.
    if it works, add 'irqpoll' in grub.conf file.

    IRQPOLL is already added. Fedora Core installer has an option to add extra commands, which i have.

    i googled for this problem but couldn't find any reliable solution. swapping SATA connector worked for a few but most of users concluded chipset incompatibility.
    i hope someone else will throw light on this pretty soon.
