Problem with yum
Hi,
I am a Linux newbie and am using Red Hat Linux 9 and downloaded and installed yum from http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/d...4-1.noarch.rpm.
But, now when I try to use yum for downloading packages I get errors. For example when I do :
I get the following error :Code:yum list available
My yum.conf file is as follows :Code:Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: Red Hat Linux 9 - i386 - Base retrygrab() failed for: http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum-repository/redhat/9/i386/headers/header.info Executing failover method failover: out of servers to try Error getting file http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum-repository/redhat/9/i386/headers/header.info [Errno 7] HTTP Error (CannotSendRequest):
I also tried following the instructions given on http://www.fedorafaq.org/fc3/#installsoftware and replaced my yum.conf with the one given there but on doing that when I run :Code:[main] cachedir=/var/cache/yum debuglevel=2 logfile=/var/log/yum.log pkgpolicy=newest distroverpkg=redhat-release tolerant=1 exactarch=1 [base] name=Red Hat Linux $releasever - $basearch - Base baseurl=http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum-repository/redhat/$releasever/$basearch/ [updates] name=Red Hat Linux $releasever - Updates baseurl=http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum-repository/redhat/updates/$releasever/
I get the following errors :Code:yum list available
Please help.Code:Error: Cannot find baseurl or name for server 'freshrpms'. Skipping Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: ATrpms - Stable retrygrab() failed for: http://apt.atrpms.net/fedora/Null/en/i386/at-stable/headers/header.info Executing failover method retrygrab() failed for: http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/atrpms/download.atrpms.net/fedora/Null/en/i386/at-stable/headers/header.info Executing failover method retrygrab() failed for: http://wftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/ATrpms/fedora/Null/en/i386/at-stable/headers/header.info Executing failover method failover: out of servers to try Error getting file http://apt.atrpms.net/fedora/Null/en/i386/at-stable/headers/header.info [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (110, 'Connection timed out')>
Thanks a lot

Thanks :)
Hi daark.child,
I have been having a lot of problems with RH9 , and I can now understand why that is so because as u said it is an unsupported distro.
Ill try to get my hands on a copy of Fedora Core asap, and I hope that fixes most of the troubles.
Thanks again for ur help
