    wireless card not activated

    I have Netgear-ma401

I can't get my wireless card to get an ip address. When I look it up in "network" it shows inactive.

No matter how many times I "activate it" and restart the network service it will not work.

    Please help.

We need more details. Which Distro and which version are you using? Are you using KDE or gnome? Have you tried entering the correct ESSID, Channel, Bitrate, etc, etc.
What is the output of this command, in a terminal as root:
    /sbin/ifconfig

    Thanks so much.

I looked at a file called /ect/redhat-release and it says "fedora core release 4 (statz). I downloaded this distro early last year I believe. I went w/ standard "desktop" option from choices available.

I don't know how to find terminal or what MS calls the cmd.

When it boots and I click on details it says " set failed, invaild argurment; set frequence (8b04) and I don't know how to pause it.

BTW, if you could recommend a book that would help too.

With Vista out and it outrageous pricing I just want to dump MS.

    thanks again

Well I can certainly understand you wanting something different from M$ Vista, It sounds like a nightmare from hell for a lot of people.
I would recommend, if you are able, to download a newer version of Linux. FC4 is unsupported and old.

I don't know how to find terminal or what MS calls the cmd
The terminal can be found in the desktop menu, It could be named "shell" or "konsole" maybe "terminal" but it's just like windows command prompt.

When it boots and I click on details it says " set failed, invaild argurment; set frequence (8b04) and I don't know how to pause it
Are you talking about the network tool? If so, that is because it isn't setup correctly.

BTW, if you could recommend a book that would help too
You probably just need some links, not books.
