    [root@localhost linux-2.6.9]# make install
    CHK include/linux/version.h
make[1]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date.
    CHK include/linux/compile.h

    LD arch/i386/boot/setup
    AS arch/i386/boot/compressed/head.o
    CC arch/i386/boot/compressed/misc.o
    OBJCOPY arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux.bin

    LD arch/i386/boot/compressed/piggy.o
    LD arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux
    OBJCOPY arch/i386/boot/vmlinux.bin
    HOSTCC arch/i386/boot/tools/build
    BUILD arch/i386/boot/bzImage
    Root device is (3, 2)
    Boot sector 512 bytes.
    Setup is 2362 bytes.
    System is 1793 kB
    Kernel: arch/i386/boot/bzImage is ready
    sh /opt/rtl/linux-2.6.9/arch/i386/boot/ 2.6.9rtlfree arch/i386/boot/bzImage ""

Do i need to make any changes in the grub file in accordance with the lines in bold?

    thanks a lot guys!
apparently the rtlinux patch i was trying to install is not complient with FC or PCQ or RH.
I got my self a Debian kernel and it worked perfectly with it.
i seems it was not creating a proper image because of various kernel mods present with FC/RH/PCQ...
