I have problem with installing the MPlayer GUI

    hi all

I have just installed the mplayer in my computer and it works correctly but without GUI, I tried to install the style (GUI) but it does not work.

    I get this message:

    [skin] file (/usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/skin) not readable.

how can I solve this problem?

    thanks...

Try installing some skins, or at least one.

I extracted the the skin files in that directory only
do I need to install it?
If I have to , how can I install the skins?
is it like compiling any program?

this is from readme file of the skin:

    Installation
    ------------
You should have received this file in a gzip'ed tar
archive named Plastik.tar.gz. Simply extract it
    into :

    ~/.mplayer/Skin

    or

    /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin

    thank you....

You just extract it,,and place it in the right directory, no need to compile.

    tar -zxvf Plastik.tar.gz

A very good GUI for MPlayer is KPlayer, in my opinion it is much better than MPlayer's own GUI.

Where exactly are you putting these skins?

What folders do you have in /usr/local/share/mplayer/?

you may need to create a symbolic link to the directory you extract called "default"

I'm assuming "Plastik" is the name of the newly-extracted directory containing the skin info?

    mv Plastik /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/
    cd /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/
    ln -s Plastik default

    /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin

    and

    /usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/skin

    and

    /usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default

and everywhere but it does not work

the folder "default" should contain the contents of the folder you extracted. In other words, if you were to do a
    ls /usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/skin
you should see a bunch of png files, is that what you see or do you see a single folder instead?
