    YUM problem

    I have installed fedora 6 core and I succeed to link it to the internet. I can also see my colleagues from our office LAN.
    I want to install oo22 and evolution (and also other programs). So I intend to use the graphical interface of yum (I understood from another forum that it can be called by "applications/add remove software". But I receive an error message: "unable to retrieve software information". More, on the details I have:"Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core"

    Until now I have used suse 10.2 and yast was more or less ok, because even if I could not use installation from the internet repositories, I could download the files and then use the local install. But with yum I can nat even unistall existing programs (to install oo22 I think it is better to unistall first oo20 which was comming with fc6).
    So there are 2 problems:
    1. I cannot launch the graphical interface of yum
    2. I cannot unistall the oo20 (I could not even find the files of oo20, I try with "search files-openoffice" or "search files-open" or "search files-office" but there was no result...

    Please help me !

    Verbatim copy from the third post on this thread I found with Search

    "login as root and open /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-core.repo file and remove '#' sign before first baseurl line."

    You can search the forum as easily as I can, and you will get faster answers

    I remove the bloody sign # but I still receive the same error. It also seem that I don't have yumex installed and more, my computer is behind a proxy who seem to make problems....
    I cannot use yum in this moment in another way than local. An even with that, I download the ntfs-3g rpm but I was not able to install it with yum. Do yuo know how can I install a rpm local ? I use the command
    "yum localinstall ntfs-3g-1.328-1.fc6.i386"
    but I receive this:
    "Loading "installonlyn" plugin
    Setting up Local Package Process
    Cannot open file: ntfs-3g-1.328-1.fc6.i386. Skipping.
    Nothing to do"

    Then I add rpm an the end:

    " yum localinstall ntfs-3g-1.328-1.fc6.i386.rpm
    Loading "installonlyn" plugin
    Setting up Local Package Process
    Cannot open file: ntfs-3g-1.328-1.fc6.i386.rpm. Skipping.
    Nothing to do"

    I run the yum command from the directory in which is the ntfs rpm file. Not working....

    install rpm package using 'rpm' command.
    Code:
    rpm -i <rpm_package>
    check this link too.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    I do this, then I was ask for another file that was missing (fuse kdl or something like that) then I download it but then I was asked again for another supplementary file... I think I just must make yum working....
    I try to configure yum.config but I after i introduce inside this file the date needed for the proxy, I try to test it with the command yum install yumex and I receive that:
    yum install yumex
    Loading "installonlyn" plugin
    Setting up Install Process
    Setting up repositories

    Well I make yum working BUT!
    Now I added in the yum.conf the lines:
    proxy=http://proxyort/
    proxy_username=username
    proxy_password=password
    and it works ! I install already yumex.
    There seem to stil be some problems, because I cannot install something else. I try with
    yum install ntfs*
    and I obtained a huge error message:
    Loading "installonlyn" plugin
    Setting up Install Process

    Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: extras

    It seems that I must add some supplementary repos, but I am not so sure how to do that. I try with livna, but I obtained an error.

    rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
    and the result was:

    Well Done !
    open /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-extras.repo file and remove 3 sign before first baseurl line.
