Well, I looked at your logs, and I didn't see anything wrong except this, and I'm not even sure if it's related or not.

Forgive me because although I've been an IT adminitrator for years I've never been into *nix OS. I'm just now teaching myself so I've got a long way to go.

I just installed Fedora 7 on my Toshiba laptop and I also have the sound problems Jan is reporting; no popup errors just no sound. The audio device that was detected was SB450 from ATI; integrated into the mobo. The mobo in the laptop is ATI so the vendor displays ATI. My first thought was to update the drivers but since ATI only has display drivers on their site I seem to be out of luck with that idea.

Is there any logs I can collect to compair to Jan's logs that might show something in common? If so please give me a little help on how to collect.

    Same problem

I was searching google to solve this problem, and I found you guys...

please help me too... I have a Toshiba Satellite A 105 laptop, in Fedora Core 5 and 6 the sound worked. Once I updated the kernel to 2.6.19 in FC6 and sound stopped working... I recompiled the kernel several times to try and solve it, with no success... Now I installed Fedora 7 and the problem continues... At least I'm not alone! But now I'm using Ubuntu, since neither sound nor wireless connections are working in Fedora... I miss Fedora!!!

My logs seem normal too, later on I'll post them here if needed. I asked the fedora mailing list, they tried to help me, but their solution didn't work at all... Maybe we should contact the developers, to see if they can't solve the problem. I think something has changed in the kernel. I only know that after version 2.6.19 they stopped using oss... Maybe thats the problem.

Ok I figured out my problem. Once again, I've very new to Linux so I don't know how specific this fix action is but maybe it'll help you two.

    1. Install the latest ALSA drivers, libs, and utils (1.0.14rc4) Advanced Linux Sound Architecture - ALSA

    2. Follow the install instructions on the ALSA site specific to your hardware. My hardware was the ATI SB450 HDA so I went to here.

    3. And the missing piece was the additional option in the modprobe.cof for the ALSA portion.

    Code:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
    Hope this helps
