I have been troubleshooting a mathematical program and I found out through process of elmination that my firewall is blocking the outgoing connections to a local server. So my dumb question is how do I tell the firewall on my Fedora 16 machine to allow the outgoing connection?
Assuming you're not hosting any services
sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables -P OUTPUT DROP
sudo iptables -P INPUT DROP
Assuming that your network has a real firewall (hardware or software) other than the one on your system, then I recommend you disable iptables: sudo service iptables stop
