Angry Error on CD #4 when installing Fedora Core 5

I seem to be having a strange issue when installing Fedora Core. The system I'm using is:

- Pentium III 450 MHz
- 512 MB RAM
- 8 GB HDD (2 of them)

I first tried installing Fedora Core 2 (3 CDs). It failed on CD #2, specifically, an "Xorg" file (can't remember the exact name of it). I then threw away Fedora Core 2 and tried to install Fedora Core 5 (5 CDs). It failed on CD #4 with an undefined error. It stated that either the file was corrupt or the CD was bad. I tried it again using the text-based installation and the installation went all the way through, but I don't know how to launch X Windows from command line. I tried the install a third time with the graphical install and it still failed on CD #4 It looks like the error is consistent but I don't know why this is happening.

Am I missing something or is this where I go flipping through Linux-For-Dummies-type books for the answer? I wouldn't mind picking up one of those books...just as soon as I can get X Windows up and running on Fedora Core 5 with this darn machine!

Help!

Welcome to the forums!

Just guessing here, but maybe you are burning the CDs at too high a speed. Here's a HowTo you can follow to make sure you are downloading and burning the files to the CDs properly:

Just my opinion, try to install a lightweight distro rather than an old, outdated one. You will encounter much more problems using an old distro.

Smile CD install successful

Thanks Ozar and Valemon!

Ozar, that's actually good advice for burning anything, not just linux. I'll keep that in mind.

Valemon, I'm trying to keep up but the release cycle of Fedora but it seems to be getting ahead of me. I'm more used to a longer release cycle than what they have been putting out. I have Core 5 on CD, 6 and 7 stored in an external hard drive.

Long live BitTorrent!

Thanks again!
