Eee PC

I have ordered an Asus Eee PC from GB, and I already have an Acer Aspire with Ubuntu. I don't want to keep the Xardos that comes with it, and first I thought of installing ubuntu on to it but now I'm considering trying something else. I've heard a lot of good things about fedora and I like the fact that it runs gnome.

I am wondering two things manily;
how kind is it to low-end laptops like the Eee?

how well does it work with compiz-fusion and other graphical elements?

Kindly

Johannes,

I have been through this exact situation. I came to the conclusion that if you want something other than the default Xandros install, the only real viable alternative is using the customized xubuntu live cd that was patched to include support for the ethernet and wireless, etc.

you can get the iso from this link --> eeeXubuntu [EeeUser Eee PC Wiki]

I used this guide to make a bootable usb stick for the install and it was flawless.

I hope this helps.

There's Eeedora which is just starting out, but it uses XFCE. If you've never used XFCE it's pretty close to Gnome just lighter which is probably better for the EeePC anyways.

You could always install it and if you still want Gnome, install that afterwards and see how it performs.

yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"

Yeah, thanx. I have already found the optimized Xubuntu through Google
It seams super, especially since I already know Ubuntu. Gonna try Fedora on my current acer laptop instead. Gonna be a little "brave" and do an Alpha-test of the new core 9. I have already burnt cds of each of them and I have also bought an external hard drive for installation so it's set to go as soon as I get my hard drive. Thanx for the help.
