converting script files into executable file

Hi,
I am working with nagios plugins. They are executable files. Now, I have developed a script file to monitor some details. How to convert it as executable file?
Also I have noticed that some shell script files are with extension .sh and some other shell script files are with no extension as .sh what is the difference between those type of files?

1. To make a file executable use 755 permissions
2. .sh is just an extension for files when the directories have some executables like .bat ....just to keep difference between those.

even if you rename that file to .html it will still be an executable and not like windows that it would become an html file.

linux does not recognise the file extensions.
so if u rename suppose a .tar file .html and run
file "filename"
it will show compressed file and not html.

hope this helps
