[SOLVED] dual boot vista/fedora formatted linux drive

after i formatted because of a currupt install of linux i now cannot boot to windows. a window comes up asking what i want to boot from my HD or my CD drive and of course i tell it HD and then it says something like grub sucks and it cant load and i get a prompt

grub>

any idea how to fix this? or how i can modify my boot loader or honestly just get rid of it all together?

Are you wanting to get Linux to work or just restore Windows?
You could use the SuperGrub CD to fix the Windows boot issue.

That was another suggestion, followed by using the Windows install disk to boot and fix the MBR example instructions here.

fiddle sticks lol the windows disk option was a no go for some reason when i selected boot from cd it went back to grub loader. so im gonna put these files on the thumb drive i dunno if i need to pull them out of their sub folders or just have the contetns of the iso on the drive..

the contents unexpanded are a folder called boot and some file called boot.catalog

should i pull the contents of the "boot" folder out ?

EDIT
ive put the files on the thumb drive and tried to boot and it asks where i want to bot from and the options are HD CD or "usb -ufd"

which i select and i get invalid system disk

le sigh

ive found that this grub command prompt accepts commands
i see options for loading images and ive gotten it to display hd0 by typing rootverify (which i found by tyig help) so im wondering if ican load the iso if i could be told how to access the file structure on this because the iso is on my thumbdrive does that help? or is this possible?

Code:
 grub> help module
Module: module FILE [ARG ...]
load a boot module FILE for a Multiboot format boot image (no interpretation of the file contents is made so users of this command must know what the kernal in qusiton expects). The rest of the line is passes as the "module command line", like the 'kernel' command.
and
Code:
 grub> rootnoverify
(hd0,2): Filesystem type unkonwn, partition type 0x7

You should be able to boot from the Windows CD, I'd recheck BIOS setting on machine and make sure the boot order is set to boot from CD before the hard drive and also check any anti-virus settings in the BIOS are set off to allow you to boot from the CD.

Which live CD are you using ... can you gain root access by opening a terminal and typing either
Code:
su
or
Code:
sudo -s
then post the output of
Code:
fdisk -l
the l is a small L.

How far through the install process did you get?

well actually the whole thing is installed correctly im just geting an error i cant get past and id rather just reinstall it, see my other post called NOOB alert! i need help in this forum from yesterday. what i was gonna do is wipe the drive (which i did from windows) and i was gonna go with hardy herrin (thats the live disk i have with me right now

the problem i was having is in that forum and i tried disabling my wireless nic to see if maybe that was why i was getting the "cannot find a network connection" while trying to update even though i was on the net with my hard wire nic card.

then it said i should restart and thats when i got the error and decided to just reinstall.
