Fedora Core 4 startup problem

Hi,

I have a problem when starting FC4. I've just installed it and the installation seemed to go without any problems. When I rebooted the system, I walked through the usual First Time Configuration screens. The system continued the startup, but when the startup seemed to be complete, all I saw was a black screen.
When I reboot the system, the startup seems to be ok to the same point: the system starts up but after startup I see a black screen.

Can anyone help me?

xserver problem.

Dear

If you are unable to see any GUI, then it means that you have not configured the xserver properly.

After the regular firsttime questions; it should show a message that the xserver was unable to start and must ask you for changes.

If it doesn't then re-install and then remember to configure our monitor; probe the monitor during installation; or select the exact model driver.

Also try using a low resolution, with low color depth to start with.

When the GUI starts, then u can try out a higher resolution.

enjoy !

Thanks for your quick reply
I have tried reinstalling already (and I didn't see a message from the X server).
Problem with my monitor (AOC HT731) is that it doesn't appear in the list of available models, so I chose "Generic CRT"

Two places you might find error info

.xsession-errors in the home directory for your user
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

At the black screen, press "Ctrl-Alt-F1".

You'll then need to log in...

You did press them all together, didn't you? Sounds stupid, but it's the only thing I can think of...

Then I'm at something of a loss...

It might be worth getting hold of a Live CD (Knoppix comes to mind) and seeing if you can get any error information of your HDD using that...
