Hello guys i am not able to configure my realtek ethernet card on fedora 5
my card is Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
does any one has its driver or any thing else plz let me know.

Hi virgo27,

The driver for the RealTek 8139 is called 8139too and should be available (as a module) in your kernel.

You can check if the module has been loaded by running:
/sbin/lsmod|grep 8139too

If it hasn't been loaded you can do:
/sbin/modprobe 8139too

If the module is loaded into the kernel, you should be able to see the interface with:
/sbin/interface -a

I don't want to jack anyone's thread, but I have the same NIC and problem as Virgo. I tried this solution to no avail. I feel a bit like a fish out of water with Linux and I don't know where to turn.

I am running FC5 on a Toshiba A110 laptop. I get the error that the device eth0 is not present whenever I boot the machine or try to activate the NIC in the Network menu in the GUI.

Which leads me to my next question... anyone know how to activate a built-in SD Card reader, or how to get this information from the Linux partition to the Windows partition so that I can get it posted? Never burned a CD in Linux either, so that may be an option. (Should I have mentioned that the NIC works in XP? I guess it would rule out hardware malfunction...)

I have the info up on the screen now (using work PC to post on here), is there anything in particular I should look for?

No joy.

Something occured to me. I have never used Linux before. Ever. I installed FC5, realized the NIC isn't working properly, did some google'ing and searching, and here we are. Could there be something else, something Linux users take for granted when setting up a NIC that I, being so new to this, could have missed?

EDIT: I am assuming that the 'modprobe 8139xxx' above is a command I type in, correct? (seriously. this is how new I am, folks...)

Why don't you just upgrade to fedora core 6, that could help you out with what you need.
