As previously posted, I had some problems updating Fedora, and tried Debian, which well, .....sucked....so Im back to Fedora! Here are 8 packages that error when I try to update them.

Im on Fedora Core 6 for x86_64, and the only extra repository I stuck in was Livna

Was this from one update attempt or multiple attempts?
example:
did you do a full system update, or one by one update?
Sometimes you can do a yum --exclude=python-devel --exclude=frysk update.
And sometimes yum just doesn't freaking co-operate for nothing.

I am running in GNOME, and it has that handy little Software Updater (pup I believe). It lists 8 things with available updates, and those 8 things will not update. The other 200 or so, went just fine.

Should I maybe uninstall those 8 things from my system, and then just run the updates?? would that work?

Oh yeah, that'll work, but I don't think you wanna attempt that.....it'd be a dependency nightmare just trying to remove HAL.
Maybe try to clean up yum a bit.
yum clean all
Other than that, just wait a day or so before getting worried about it,,,,,yum is funky like that.

I tried Yum Cleanup, and then waited a bit and tried updating again and it still barfs on those 8 things.... :-/

It's probably down to all the updates not being ready yet. I've occasionally seen problems like this, particularly with 3rd party repositories. If it doesn't clear in a week, then you may want to put up here which additional repos you have installed. There could be repository conflicts that you're not aware of, and there are some unscrupulous 3rd party repos that overwrite the packages from the core set.

I've been trying to find a fix for this problem all over, but the advice seems to be - yum is a bit weird, so wait and see if it fixes itself. Is there any real fix? Does it matter if these packages can never be downloaded?
