lirc tira usb and FC6

hi all. i've posted on lirc w/no help so here goes....

i'm running FC6 and trying to configure tira2. i've tried configuring from source and now rpm w/no success. i don't need a kernel module, and i can run lircd (when configured from source) to say 'tira driver ready' but after running irrecord i get 'caught signal' or more commonly 'connection refused'

any help would b appreciated! thanks
