dial up modem configuration to FC6
hello,
How can i configure internal modem for dial up internet connection on FC 6.
I can't see anything about modem under FC6's network application (system/management/network). But windows see modem as well. But under windows model of the modem is SoftV92 Data Fax Modem. I don't think its real model of modem.
If there is a driver problem how can i determine to find modem model and where can i download driver?
Thank You

Hiya disdro,
There is a way to detect the chipset on your modem, which is exactly what you need before you can get it working.
Log back into Linux, and browse through your desktop menu for konsole/terminal, once you open that, then login as root like this
{press enter}Code:su -
{enter root password and press enter}
Then enter this command
You'll see some code scroll by that looks like this.Code:lspci
Look for the part that identifies your modem or just post the whole thing back here for more help. Hopefully you have a decent modem and it will work without much trouble.Code:00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82810E DC-133 (GMCH) Graphics Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82810E DC-133 (CGC) Chipset Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801AA PCI Bridge (rev 02) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801AA ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801AA IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801AA USB Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801AA SMBus Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) 01:06.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10) 01:0d.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) 01:0e.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
Are you using KDE desktop or Gnome Desktop?
You should be able to type this command into the same terminal window as above
To bring up the network config tools, when you click on Create new, I think it allows you to select dialup connection.Code:system-config-network
