It would really depend on what you use your machine for and your online habits. That's all a lot of people run and there are lots of Linux users that don't even run that.
Here's a short guide to security you can read that might help you to decide if you need anything further.oz

If you have a healthy Browse, Update and Backup habbits its already enough. Like Ozar already said.
But if you are not sure.. you might want to install a rootkitscanner as crontask and iptables.
If you are paranoid(Since I dont think you run somekind of server) you can also install a NIDS(eg Snort), TCP_Wrappers and a ExploitChecker.

You should be fine if you are behind a router or even on dialup. It's still not 100% secure, but it's better then nothing.
I praise Webmin and PuTTy!

my browser habits arent perfect ....i run rkhunter and it comes back
with 0 hits but it does say warning at several places..
which firewall is better than firestarter??? is there any free anti spy
for ubu???I am used to running avg and adaware in Windows.
avg for linux did not work..dont know why.
I would like 1 antispy and a good firewall for ubu.

Sorry, but your Windows Usage made you Paranoid

If you run rk-hunter, iptables and a IDS you are more then secure..
And, well avg is not a good virus scanner.. So I dont get why you want that in the first place.. But if you want to scan your system for Windows Viruses (I dont know why) look into ClamAV. Also if you are done with securing your system you might want to portscan it. Use nmap. And well if you still dont feel save I am happy to bash your PC with Package Crafters, Fuzzers and ddoses.
I can look for you how secure you are. (I am a CEH in training)
Anyhow, adaware is not needed. First all of them are targeted at IE and Windows File Stuctures. Second they have to be root to do that.
Well, I hope you know a lil more about security now
