Proventia problems

Hi. I am having a problem with my Proventia GX4004 IPS which uses Linux of course. I'm not sure what type of Linux it uses. I tried to restore the box to it's original settings by doing a Restore Original once the system boots up. It is now asking me for a local hosts name. Well, once I do a restore original, my configs are then wiped out which is not a problem because I have my paper and pen back up.
Once I did the restore original, it began asking me for a local host name and password. I tried the password that I gave to the box, and I tried the default username and password admin admin. Still didn't work. How do I find out the local host name for the box and the password if I can't get in through root or single user -s. I've exhausted my spool lof knowledge. Please help.

I dont know the Proventia but I know the Concept.
Well basicly there is a Harddrive in there. (or some way of Memory Meganism)
To restore the Password you have to get the Harddrive out.
Plug it in a box that you can control. Load Linux.
Mount the /etc partition on your Linux Box and do:

cat /etc/shadow |grep root > file && cat /mnt/etc/shadow >> file
nano -w file
Remove-The Second RootLine
cat file > /mnt/etc/shadow
umount /mnt

Now you changed the root password to the password you have on the local system.
Then you should be able to login.

Hello. Thank you so much for replying. After so many attempts of playing around with this thing, I seemed to have prevented myself from even getting a login prompt now. I'm not sure if your method will still work without this option, but I'm going to give a try to see what I can do.

What I did was installed the recovery CD for proventia. It's suppose to restore the system back to factory defaults. I saw the images loading, but when the system went to reboot, it didn't get me to a login prompt. It displays the following message:

The message is without the stars. I have no clue what that is, but the reboot just stops there. It's suppose to allow me to login using admin but that's all I get. I keep recovering using the CD thinking that maybe something was skipped, but that's not the case here. It was a successful recover. The reboot however was unsuccessful.

Umm maybe some chip is overheat.
I would NOT take it appart and take it to the place were you bought it
