pakcage manager working ? newbie
I have ubuntu 7.10 installed and working beautifully since last week. but since wednesday night, the bandwith light on my rounter has been going crazy...which only happens when a HUGE file is being downloaded. I clicked one icon on the taskbar and it says " package manager working" but it seems to go on way too long...only took 20 minutes to completely install ubuntu . is this normal ? should i be worried, could this just be auto downloads ? thanks

I'm not to into Ubuntu, but I would think that you're on the right track with the automatic updates. Synaptic is probably just reaching out for any updates it can detect. I would disable the auto updates and see if you notice a difference.
