Two-factor authentication (aka, USB authentication in Linux)

I would like to get/make a USB authentication program something like the one on: securikey.com, but theirs is only for Windoze (AFAIK). Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to go about this? Where to get a program to do it? How I would go about writing a program to do it myself?

I have no problem spending a lot of time doing it, as the semester'll be over in a couple weeks and I won't have anything to do for a month or two. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Looks like that's what you have in mind (to some extent.)

I'll play with it and post my findings here.

There is an option for a "root plug" in the kernel config. I messed with it and didnt get it to work. I even looked through the c file :P

never ever ever use the hardened option in make.conf!
